Police arrest masquerade; 2 others with human parts

TWO suspects, identified as Adebayo Saheed and Bello Mustapha, have been arrested by Oyo State Police Command for alleged possession of parts of human skull and hair. The suspects were paraded along with a custodian of an Ibadan masquerade, known as Ogunmola Adenimodo, for allegedly destroying some vehicles at Ayeye area of Ibadan metropolis. They were rounded up at Moniya in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state. Ibadan masquerade festival had always left on its trail tears, losses, violence, bloodshed and even death in some cases. However, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Muhammed Katsina, insisted that the reign of terror and impunity would not continue. While parading the suspects at the state Police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan yesterday, the commissioner explained that the ambush squad of the command arrested the two members of a dangerous syndicate who specialized in duping unsuspecting members of the public.

In spite of the privatisation of the power sector, intended to improve electricity supply in the country and the crazy and outrageous bills churned out every month by the  Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), residents of Tose New Town in Moniya, Ibadan, had always been enveloped in darkness. Community News gathered that power is in seldom supply in this area. Many times, according to findings, electricity comes two or three times a week, and goes off almost immediately. At other times, it comes in low current or the dead of the night when it is of little or no use to consumers.

Odu’a Investment plans to grow revenue by 250% in five years

Odu’a Investment Company Ltd has disclosed plans to grow the conglomerate’s revenue by 250 per cent between 2015 and 2019 with a baseline 15 per cent Profit Before Tax (PBT). This was part of the outcome of the three-day brain- storming strategic retreat held for the company’s board of directors, the management team and chief executive officers of its subsidiary companies at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Moniya, Ibadan.

PZ staffers donate to rehabilitation centre in Ibadan

PZ Employee Inner Heart Scheme, a voluntary corporate social responsibility project embarked upon by staffers of PZ, has renovated a 28-capacity hostel of the Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled, Moniya, Ibadan, as part of efforts of the employees to make life better for the inmates. The hostel was renovated to make it more habitable, and a pumping machine, louvers, doors and beddings, among others, were fixed by the employees, costing over half a million naira.

Why I joined others to plan girl’s murder –Suspect

The saying that one can only run but cannot hide forever became a truism in the case of Abiodun Nasiru, who fled after an alleged murder of a six-year-old girl, Oladayo Yetunde Glory as he was arrested in faraway Sokoto State where he tried to hide from his crime. The decapitated body of six-year-old Glory was found in Nasiru’s room at Isale Awero area of Moniya, Ibadan, on March 14, two days after she was declared missing. Her head had been cut off, her stomach ripped open, and her entrails packed in a bucket within the room. It will be recalled that Crime Reports carried the news of Glory’s murder in Sunday Tribune’s March 23, 2014 edition. Glory’s guardian, Mrs Mary Olaniyi, who was her aunt, had reported at Moniya police station on Wednesday March 12 that the girl was missing. By the time the police forcefully gained entry into Nasiru’s room, they found the body tied in a wrapper while the entrails were kept in a bucket. Since the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, detectives investigating the case had been on the trail of the runaway suspect, seeking information on his whereabouts. Their efforts yielded fruits when they received news from Sokoto State Police Command that he had been nabbed. The homicide team left for Sokoto and came back to Ibadan on Tuesday, April 15. Crime Reports learnt that other detainees at the CID who had overheard discussions on  Nasiru’s alleged dastardly act welcomed him with serious beatings immediately he was  put in the cell, angry at his deed. Crime Reports was at the State CID to interview the suspect. Initially, he sold another story on how the murdered girl came to be in his room, but later opened up on how it really happened. Salesboy Beaten To Death In Ibadan

Tragedy struck in Akinyele area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, when a mob allegedly beat a salesboy in the area to death. The victim, Lukman Adebayo was allegedly beaten with sticks till he died. The public relations officer of the state police command, SP Olabisi Ilobanafor who confirmed the incident said one Olumide Adeleke from the Akinyele Trailer Park, Moniya reported that a salesbot was beaten and had been rushed to St. Patrick Hospital where he eventually died. Ilobanafor said four persons, namely, Ali Lawal Garba, Garuba Bakare, Bello Muhammed and Iliyasu Bashiru had been arrested in connection with the incident. She said the suspects after investigation would be charged to court, for murder.
